So, it's Easter. A few days off work. But, have YOU been alone, and wished you were out there with the 'happy families' walking in the park, wandering down the prom, causing uproar in the restaurant? If you are alone, do you wish you weren't?

Or, did you have one of those 'wonderful' family Easters - children fighting over eggs; mother-in-law trying to tell you how best to discipline YOUR kids; a deluge of people coming to stay - with yet more children - as you relish the idea of a few days off work? ...Did you actually wish you were alone (even if just temporarily!)?

Perhaps you were one of the people who had to make copious arrangements to pack up the kids so they could happily go off and spend a few days with mum or dad (ex wife or husband) - so you didn't have the pleasure of their company, but were able to go off and see friends, a new lover maybe?

Today I was sitting on the sofa next to my teenage son and we were watching some You Tube. Constantly people were popping up on his msn and facebook - including his girlfriend, who he sees at school and sometimes evenings and weekends, but no more than once a week. However I suspect they are in almost constant communication, or at least connected for communication if they want it.
How have these methods of communication changed the way we both make and conduct our relationships? The recent shocking case surrounding the dreadful abuse at the Little Teds nursery and the fact that the abusers had 'met' (although never actually in person!) via Facebook, and the use of their mobile phone, is a somewhat sobering reminder of how modern communications can have a negative angle (sorry, that sounds something of an understatement in this particular case!).
Before that case came to light, I had rather naively wondered if, as an interesting social experiment, it would be possible to use something like Facebook to build up a whole new 'network' of (previously completely unknown) friends from scratch. OMG!! How risky would that sound now.
What are others' experiences in this area? With all that is on offer out there online - including very specifically targeted 'dating' (or should we say, 'connecting people') websites, for almost every type of person/interest/status ... it makes a general run of the mill dating website seem a bit like the 'has been' we are all hoping to avoid when using them!! What do you think?

Italian stallion or dirty old man?

I just asked my husband for ideas to put on the blog today. He suggested I post about Silvio Berlusconi - and try and find out whether people see him as a spirited older man who is clearly still young at heart, or a sad old man who needs to grow up? Well ...what do you think - maybe it is somewhere between the two choices offered, but it would be interesting to hear from both men and women on this one.

Today I was speaking to someone who is divorced from his wife of 25 years, and has been for nearly 10 years. He has since, quite recently, married another woman - who he loves. During the course of our conversation it was obvious he still felt very bitter about his ex - the mother of his now adult children. They don't have even an affable relationship; just tolerating each other on occasions when they are 'forced' to meet (eg. graduation ceremony). I questioned how this could be, after all this time - why? What do you think ...

So, what is the answer - or maybe there just isn't one. Any others out there feel they'd have a relevant comment or view.

Today on the Jeremy Vine phone-in on BBC Radio 2, they were talking about people who lie about their age. Apparently it is very common for people using online dating websites and services to tell huge porky pies about their age - which of course ends up getting them into hot water when they turn up on dates looking ...older than expected!
